Satellite Hacking @ 44Con!

10 August 2011

Satellites are used to carry an enormous volume of data and Internet traffic but how secure are they? Most satellite ISPs and operators are concerned with provision of service, not security. Examining various issues surrounding satellite communications security, this talk by a security specialist from First Defence will be at 44Con at the start of September.

What sort of data can be received from the vast numbers of satellites in orbit around the Earth? What are the various types of satellite orbits, and what equipment is needed to start 'hacking' satellites. These questions, and more, will be answered in the 44Con talk which discusses satellite hacking techniques. Real life examples of traffic, data and audio communications received will be presented. We'll also take a critical look at a UK military satellite hacking incident which was widely reported in the press, and consider the commonly asked question - "can it be done?"

44Con is a combined information security conference and training event to be held in London during the last week of August / first week of September. First Defence are supporting 44Con in a number of ways, including presenting this talk and providing our world renowned social engineering training.
