Social Engineering Testing for IT Security Professionals @ 44Con

15 July 2011

Learn how to conduct an ethical social engineering test against your own organisation, and how to identify and deal with social engineering attacks by understanding the characteristics of and methods used by social engineers.

This two day course trains participants in how to conduct an ethical social engineering test. The objective of the course is to provide participants with the tools and knowledge to run social engineering tests within their organisation, and to identify and deal with social engineering attacks by learning the characteristics of and methods used by social engineers.

Social engineering is a collection of techniques for manipulating people into providing inappropriate access to physical or information assets. It typically involves deceiving people and exploiting the innate human desire to be friendly and helpful and to avoid confrontation, such that they compromise normal security procedures. Even where optimal physical and technical information security controls have been implemented, the human vulnerability can lead to compromised confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Social engineering tests can be used to evaluate and strengthen your organisation's defence against social engineering. Like any security test, social engineering tests can help to identify security weaknesses that could allow your resources to be compromised. Such tests can:

• Give a good indication of and even improve your staff.s level of security awareness
• Teach your staff how to identify and deal with social engineering situations
• Provide valuable recommendations on both security awareness and physical security

However, it can be difficult to know how to conduct a social engineering test. This training course at 44Con at the end of August will teach participants how to conduct an ethical social engineering test as well as giving recommendations on how to defend against social engineers.

44Con is a combined information security conference and training event to be held in London this summer. First Defence are supporting 44Con in a number of ways, including presenting a talk on satellite hacking and providing our world renowned social engineering training.

We can offer our customers discounted entry to the conference. Please contact us for details.
