Women in Social Engineering Talk @ DEF CON 20 Las Vegas

20 July 2012

Are organisations more vulnerable to female social engineers? Even the best technical security controls don't protect against an attack from an experienced social engineer, but what part may gender play?

When you combine both social engineering and traditional hacking techniques, you have a very dangerous attack. Social engineering attacks can have disastrous consequences, both financially and reputationally.

If that attack were perpetrated by a woman would it be more likely to succeed?

As a woman performing social engineering, are there specific considerations to contemplate?

Our talk at DC20 will explore the effect of gender on various social engineering attack scenarios.
We will also address the practical aspects of performing social engineering as a woman, and will include war stories from the presenter’s own personal experience.

We are currently scheduled for 13:30 on Friday, but check http://www.social-engineer.org 's DEF CON schedule page for updates. Further details of DC20 can be found at http://www.defcon.org which is being held at the Rio in Las Vegas.

This talk will highlight the benefits of performing social engineering testing and give an insight into the techniques and methods used by social engineers, whether as part of an ethical social engineering test or as a malicious social engineering attack.

Remember, the key to preventing social engineering attacks from being successful lies in education and awareness. But is being a woman the key to being a successful social engineer?

Come and find out!
